Independent Contractor Driver — What the Role Consists Of

As a 1099 independent contractor with Mailrun, you use your own vehicle and smartphone to complete on-demand, same-day, and scheduled deliveries for business clients (healthcare, legal, retail, banking, and more) across OK, AR, TX, and KS. You control your availability, accept the runs you want, and are paid per job/route - NOT an hourly employment.

  • What you’ll do

Pick up & deliver documents, parcels, medical items, parts, and mail runs.

Follow instructions (addresses, contact names, delivery windows, special handling).

Capture proof of delivery (photo/signature, timestamp, recipient name).

Use the app for offers, navigation, status updates, and messaging dispatch.

    Handle special services when requested:

    • Healthcare: chain-of-custody scans, sealed totes, basic cold-chain handling (insulated bags/gel packs), HIPAA-aware labeling.

    • Legal: deadline-driven court filings, conformed copy returns, secure document handling.

    • Retail/B2B: store transfers, parts to technicians, windowed customer deliveries.

    • USPS support: outgoing mail drops and P.O. Box pickups with receipts as directed.
  • What you’ll need

Vehicle: Reliable car/SUV/minivan (cargo van a plus). No CDL required for cars/vans.

Smartphone & data plan for the driver app, GPS, photos.

Insurance: Valid personal auto policy (commercial limits may be required on some accounts); active driver’s license and clean MVR.

Readiness gear (recommended): Phone mount/charger, insulated bags/coolers, PPE, small dolly/hand truck, straps/blankets.

  • Compliance & professionalism

Background check (and MVR) prior to activation.

Confidentiality/NDA and client SOPs (especially for medical/legal).

No-open policy for sealed items; follow site protocols and ID checks.

Appearance: Clean vehicle, professional communication, courteous handoffs.

  • How offers and pay work

Offers: You’ll receive delivery opportunities with pickup/drop info, ETA expectations, and pay. You may accept/decline.

Pay model: Per-run, per-stop, or per-route pricing; add-ons for wait time, after-hours, or specialized handling when applicable.

Payouts: 1099 contractor payments; schedule and method disclosed during onboarding.

Expenses: You cover your own fuel, tolls, phone/data, maintenance, and taxes (independent contractor).

  • Scheduling & coverage

On-demand: STAT/Rush jobs dispatch in minutes.

Same-day: Pickup by cutoff → deliver by close.

Scheduled routes: Recurring AM/PM loops for consistent income.

After-hours/weekends/holidays: Optional—higher-urgency work often pays more.

  • A typical day

Set your availability in the app.

Accept runs that fit your route and timing.

Drive to pickup, verify items/IDs, scan if needed.

Transport directly; monitor ETAs; communicate issues early.

Complete a clean, documented handoff; submit POD.

Grab another offer or end your availability—your call.

  • Tips to earn more

Keep insulated bags and basic cold-chain supplies ready.

Accept clustered stops or planned routes for efficiency.

    Communicate proactively (access issues, delays).

Maintain a high on-time and POD accuracy rate to unlock better work

Important: This is a 1099 contractor opportunity (not W-2 employment). Requirements and rates can vary by market, client, vehicle type, and service level.
